First Step Immigration was founded with purpose and heart by DeShauna Miller-Powell, a proud 2025 graduate of Curry College with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and minors in Business Administration and Law & Society. Born into a family of immigrants, DeShauna witnessed firsthand the emotional and financial strain that comes with navigating the U.S. immigration system. Inspired by her family’s resilience and driven by a deep desire to help others, she created First Step Immigration to bridge the gap for those who cannot afford an attorney and struggle to understand complex immigration paperwork.
